I was mainly inspired by the theme of solitude that appears in some of Koudelka's photos. Although his idea of solitude was meant to convey loneliness and depression, I saw it differently.

In the photos of the woman in the city and the man with his hat, it looked to me as if the solitude was comfortable and calm, filled with deep inner thoughts. That is what I tried to convey through my photo. The character is casual, as shown by his body language, and is obviously alone. He looks like he is thinking deeply.
Another aspect I took from Koudelka's work is the city setting. I wanted to incorporate nature instead of a city because I think it is more soothing, but I also used the guardrail, which is part of an urban environment. I think the guardrail and road paired with the trees in the background create a comfortable environment for being alone.
